HBAL Golf Scramble Update
We had a great day at the Home Builders Association of Louisville’s annual golf scramble. Playing with me this year was Pete Nusz with Design Drafting, LLC, Buck, our superintendent, and Bryce Raley with The Content Squad.
Here’s a quick, fun video of us at the scramble. This is an annual event. We always announce upcoming scrambles and events on our blog, so be sure to follow along if you’re interested in participating next year.

Custom sun room and deck in East Louisville
We’ve shared a couple of videos before on this project in Winchester Acres in east Louisville. The sun room is now complete and the homeowners have done a nice job with the finishing details.
The second video shows the deck we completed for the homeowners a while back. It’s a Trex product and nicely connects to the sun room.
We’re always excited and honored to work with repeat customers. If you have a custom building or remodeling question or are thinking about starting a project, contact us. We’d love to work with you on your next building or remodeling job.

Homearama Louisville Starts Saturday, July 16
If you live in Louisville, you probably know about Homearama. This event happens every year and this year it’s sure to be as exciting as ever. It’s being held at Norton Commons, a new, traditional community in Prospect.
This community is very unique, and the architecture of the homes here are unlike what you might see in many new subdivisions today. The styles are more traditional, with some even having a farmhouse feel. It’s definitely a unique neighborhood and if you can make it out, you won’t be disappointed. It’s expected to be one of the biggest and most exciting Homearama events Louisville has seen.
Here are some details to keep in mind:
- Twenty-one homes all on one street will be displayed, providing easy walking from home to home
- You’ll have access to the amenities that Norton Commons has to offer such as shops and restaurants
- It begins on Saturday, July 16 and runs through the end of the month
- The Home builders Association of Louisville is a sponsor and offers a link for a coupon on its website
- Ticket prices: $10 for adults, $15 for a two-day pass
- Hours: weekdays 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.,Saturdays 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Directions: Exit Highway 22 (Brownsboro Road). Proceed approximately 1 mile to Highway 1694 (Old Brownsboro Road) and turn left. Norton Commons is approximately 0.6 miles on the left. Look for yellow Homearama signs.
Even if you aren’t looking to buy or build a custom home, you can still get great design ideas for your next remodeling project and have a chance to experience this one-of-a-kind community.
Keep us in mind if you plan on building or remodeling in the future.

If you’re thinking about building, updating, or remodeling, I urge you to contact me to discuss how working with a registered builder and remodelor can improve your experience. You can get in touch with me here.
Why you should choose a registered builder
If you read my blog or newsletter, you know that I’m a pretty big advocate of choosing a registered builder or remodelor to complete your construction project.
The Home Builders Association of Louisville (HBAL) recently put this video together explaining some of the reasons why it’s better to work with a registered builder. If you’re looking for a custom home builder in Louisville, please contact me with any questions you have. I’ve building and remodeling homes in Louisville and surrounding areas for more than 30 years.
We hope you enjoy the video.
Share on FacebookSaving money on your summer energy bills
Imagine that you are in a very, very cool place. Close your eyes and picture yourself in the snowy mountains…for those in the real world—the real hot world of Louisville, Ky, it’s hard to concentrate on anything other than to stop sweating!
We haven’t even officially reached summer and already we’re seeing temperatures in the 90s. Louisville is known for its hot, humid, and dry summers, which in turn can lead to high-cost energy bills. As a custom home builder and remodelor for more than 30 years, I’ve experienced a lot of hot Louisville summers, but have also helped many home owners save money on their energy bills. Here are some steps you can take to make sure your home is running as efficiently as possible.
- If you live in an older home, you could have leaky windows and doors which literally allow hot air in and makes it hard to keep rooms cool. Sealing or caulking around windows or doors could be an easy fix to ensure no air gets in or out. If you’re ready for a more expensive investment, consider replacing your windows altogether. If you’re thinking about remodeling your house or are in the middle of a remodel, don’t forget about upgrading your windows.
- For newer homes, a less extreme fix is to simply keep your blinds and curtains closed during the day when your home is in direct sunlight. Also, keep ceiling fans running when you’re at home so cooler air is circulating.
- Grill out and avoid using the oven when weather is extreme. This will keep your kitchen cool and prevent the furnace from running on overdrive.
Remember, with the furnace running as much as it does, don’t forget to replace your air filter every month! If you would like to speak to me about a remodel or other creative ways to save money on energy bills, contact me today.
Share on FacebookIs price the only thing that matters?
We’ve definitely seen business pick up recently and are ecstatic about the seven bids we currently have out. Some of the builders we’re bidding against are licensed contractors—but some are not. As more and more people start thinking about home additions, remodels, or custom builds this spring, we wanted to remind everyone how important it is to not focus entirely on price. Quality is just as important when it comes to your home.
I wanted to list a few reasons why you should consider choosing someone like us, instead of the cheapest bid you receive. After all, you want the best price, but you want your home to last a lifetime.
- We’ve been in the building business since 1974, and have weathered many storms in our industry.
- We know the current design trends, but we also know what stands the test of time.
- Our homes have the features required for Energy Star Rating. In fact, one Energy Star rater said to us, “You had one of the best tests we have ever seen in this size house.”
- Our staff has been with us for several years including many of our subcontractor teams, which have been with us since the mid 1970s.
- We have many repeat customers and a list of references we can share with you.
- We give you detailed specifications and costs that let you make informed decisions about your project. YOU help create the budget.
- We truly are a custom builder/remodeler, in that we do not just use our “canned” plans, but help you create your dream plan.
Do your homework when it comes to selecting a custom home builder or remodeler. Use a Registered Builder or Registered Remodeler. We would love to bid your job, but remember, we won’t compromise quality just to bid the lowest price. We will, however, try to help get your project within your budget.
The 2011 Home Show has come and gone—our recap
Here’s how the Home and Garden Show fared in our eyes.
On Friday and Saturday there were a steady flow of people just out looking for education and information. Of course, just like at any trade show, there were the usual “stuff grabbers.” You know the ones, equipped with two bags and looking for any widgets they can score. Most seemed to stop at our booth and take a DVD or a brochure. Some asked questions. Most of the interest we saw on Friday and Saturday was around remodeling or home improvements.
The show was not quite as large as years past which makes sense given the state of the economy. There were plenty of TVs to watch the NCAA games, and the same good fairgrounds food. The show is always a great opportunity to connect with friends in our industry, see our subcontractors in a more informal way, and get a pulse on the market.
Sunday after about 3:00 the traffic at our booth really picked up. Sunday from 3:00-5:00 was the best time (after the ball games but before the selection show). During that window alone we had four quality leads.
First were a couple of good remodel leads, then a custom home lead, plus four appointments.
We also had a handful of people sign up to receive our monthly email newsletter.
Overall, I would consider it a successful show! By the way, check out the Home and Garden Show’s website to search for information you may have missed.
See you at the Home and Garden Show
If you read my newsletter this weekend, you may have noticed that I’ll be attending the Home Garden & Remodeling Show again this year.
The show runs from March 11-13 at the Kentucky Expo Center and is produced by the Home Builders Association of Louisville. Exhibitors at the show will be offering information on any home-related topic you can think of.
I’ll be exhibiting a full booth this year and will be talking to people about custom home building and remodeling. I’d love for you to stop by my booth and say hi. If you have any questions about home remodeling, improvements, or custom home building, please make sure to ask.
Also, I’ll be collecting business cards at the booth. Be sure to drop yours in for a chance to win a prize.
We look forward to seeing you at the show!
P.S. It’s worth the trip out for a famous Ky fairgrounds pork chop sandwich. Also, if you have the time, the Kentucky State Fair flea market is in town.
